French terroir
The Backstory: There’s something theatrical about stepping into L’Auberge des Crus, like you’ve wandered onto the set of a period film. This spot from Charles Laborde celebrates old-school French hospitality, with a crackling fireplace, velvet-covered pews, and 400 bottles of wine behind vintage doors salvaged from the Banque de France.
The Experience: Countryside manor with a Parisian ZIP code. There’s oak marquetry, a bar rescued from a 1940s auberge, porcelain from Gien, and chandeliers that once lit up a château.
Chef Ravshan Khamidov delivers a love letter to French terroir, but the kind of letter that might require a quill. Starters include terrine des copains, poireaux vinaigrette, wild Burgundy snails, and eggs poached in red wine. Mains are mostly rich and rustic: a 12-hour lamb shoulder that barely needs a fork, volaille supreme with a golden jus, and a veal andouillette for the brave. If you’re lucky, there’s also sausage with foie gras and mashed potatoes — the kind of dish that’ll zero out any afternoon plans. Desserts are textbook classics, like crème brûlée and tarte tatin.
Hidden behind fortress-style doors, the cellar holds bottles dating back to 1916, with a rotating selection by the glass. Whether you’re indulging or sipping something humble, everything is poured with reverence.
Why It’s FOUND: L’Auberge des Crus is the kind of place where the knives feel heavy and the tablecloth is crisp. Oh, and the butter is abundant. All in all, a delicious detour. –Victoire Loup

It’s Friday morning. What’s the scene at your workplace?
On Friday, I usually try to fit in an early workout from 7 to 8h at the Soho House gym or near my house either at Snake & Twist or Burning Bar. I shower, grab a matcha latte on the go and get to the office around 9. When I have time, I get some chouquettes (little brioche) for the team because we all need extra fuel on Fridays.
What’s on the agenda for today?
I try to split my day between strategy, article requests, and connecting with journalists around coffee or lunch. Today, I’m wrapping my global strategy for 2025. Since we’re at the end of the month, I also have to do all my reporting.
Any restaurant plans today, tonight, this weekend?
I’ll meet with friends at Alfi’s on rue du Mont Thabor in the 1st. I discovered the spot during the Olympics as we were staying nearby, and it’s close to my friends’ offices. It became our go-to spot as the service is great, the team super nice, and the pasta amazing. Extra points for having a super cute interior and warm vibe.
Other favorite places include Hando for the best handrolls, Jones, and Faubourg Daimant, a delicious vegetarian restaurant.
How about a little leisure or culture?
This weekend I’m planning to go to the Dolce and Gabbana exhibit and also attend a Jorja Smith concert with a friend.
Sport is very important in my daily routine as it helps me find a good balance between work and life. I used to live in Miami, so this is now part of my culture. I try to go to Pilates twice a week, and I alternate between DNA, 33 Foch, and Keana. I also do some weightlifting, and I try to go on a long run on weekends in the Bois de Boulogne or by the Seine.
Any weekend getaways?
I am going to Biarritz for my birthday. I love this city, it’s a little California only four hours away from Paris by train where you can surf, hike, and, most importantly, eat delicious Spanish tapas. Also, my good friend just opened a hotel with her family, and I’m excited to experience it. I also try to go home every month, in Nîmes, which is three hours by train from Paris, to get some nature and sun. You can visit a lot of Roman landmarks such as the Roman house and the Arenes (small colosseum). It is also fun to go for the Feria in May. (Fun fact: this is where the name denim comes from. Denim — de Nîmes in French — means ‘from Nîmes’ as the city is where the fabric originates from.)
What was your last great vacation?
I was in New Mexico during the holidays, as my sister lives in Arizona. It was beautiful and the landscape gives this Western movie vibe where you drive on Highway 66. I particularly loved Santa Fe, kind of hipster-ish and also the great Georgia O’Keeffe museum. Iconik Coffee was a great spot for breakfast, we also enjoyed Café Pasqual’s and Tia Sophia’s. Also, a very interesting place to visit is the Los Alamos science museum where you can learn the history of the atomic bomb (which was developed there by Oppenheimer).
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
I recently bought a second-hand Bottega Veneta bag that I love. It’s very chic, discreet, and big enough to put everything I need for my day.
What store or service do you always recommend?
My best friend is the thrift store queen and helps us discover the best shops in the 9th arrondissement. You can find Celine cashmere sweaters at very good prices in pristine condition. One of these shops is Troc en Stock.

Gourmet fantasy
Originally opened in 1985, La Librairie Gourmande is a Parisian institution for culinary enthusiasts. The bookshop was taken over in 2007 by Déborah Dupont Daguet and remains a go-to for chefs, home cooks, and anyone who’s ever dog-eared a recipe. The rue Montmartre store features over 20,000 titles, including rare and vintage editions.
In spring 2025, its 40th anniversary year, La Librairie Gourmande returned to the Left Bank, moving to rue Vavin. Housed in a former restaurant, the space features a skylight and a spiral staircase. Books are arranged like a multi-course meal: everyday cooking, vegetarian recipes, and kids’ titles greet you at the entrance. A few steps in, it’s all about pastry and baking: viennoiserie, cookies, cakes, sourdough. Then a short climb to the former kitchen, where you’ll find books on fermentation, sauces, fish, and the ever-growing shelf of food-focused humanities. Come hungry. –Victoire Loup
